Being introduced to the theme of blogs during my course, it has been a great way to explore the blogging world and why its a great media platform. Here are why blogs are so bloody great.
1. Expression
Blogs are a great way to express who you are, your own thoughts about anything you desire and look at what people across the world have to say. It creates a unique landscape for each person to use the platform in their own way. Social media is a great way to create an identity for yourself, but a blog has no limits. You can talk about whatever you want with no character limit, no restrictions and show you or your cause in a new way.
2. Passion
Whatever you choose to blog about, you express your passion truly. You can find a blog about absolutely anything in the world and see people’s true passion through words, images, videos, you name it! Blogs help people through so many different ways, and by putting your knowledge and passion on a website you can inspire an audience.
3. Community
Blogs allow people to create a community in a global network. Blogs allow people to connect over their interests by interacting in comments or polls and are a way to find out new information about each topic. You can meet millions of new people that care about the same interests you through blogs and feel the belonging you may struggle to find anywhere else.
4. Earn
Blogs can give so much to people, whether it is to express who you are or make a community about whatever you desire. The bonus is you can make an income, big or small, out of your blog. Make a bit of dosh expressing what you love!
5. Create
Blogs are a great platform for creative expression, a completely blank canvas. Through the tips of your fingers you can create a business, a community, art, films or anything you like. A blog is completely your own, so create what you desire and express who you are.
Through the new world of digital media, it has allowed people to become connected in a completely different way. Blogs are a big part of the new media culture we are now a part of, and a great example of media convergence. You can bring so many different elements of the media landscape into one place such as text, video, photographs etc. It includes the technological convergence (obviously by being on the internet) as a blog can hold many different types of landscapes such as journalism, general thoughts, information sites, the list goes on. It holds the social convergence of social media, as blogs are a place for people to communicate, and can being for specific people or for any person at all. It also supports the multimedia model of convergence due to digitalisation, as blogs can combine so many different textual elements on one platform. You can also access a blog in many different ways such as on a computer, laptop, smartphone and tablet. Blogs are a great example of transmedia convergence affected by digitalisation, as they may be inspired from another media text such as a film to create discussion and add to the whole product. In conclusion, blogs are a great way to connect into the new media landscape that we are living in today and are able to hold so much of unique media in one place.
